A/Prof Thong is currently the Head of Division of Otolaryngology, Alexandra Hospital, and Senior Consultant, Dept of Otolaryngology, National University Hospital. He is an Associate Professor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, having previously served as Director of Undergraduate Education (Otolaryngology) and department Deputy Director for Clinical Services.
